Dana or generosity is an essential part of the Buddhist tradition which enables the teachers and coordinators to offer their teachings and service freely at Gaia House.
As well as offering Dana to the teachers and coordinators, there are other ways to practise generosity by supporting Gaia House. Retreat fees are kept as low as possible, so that all who wish to attend are able to do so. However, Gaia House is a non-profit charity and an expensive operation to run. We rely on donations as well as retreat fees to keep us going, and we will continue to depend on people’s generosity to take Gaia House into the future as a comfortable and hospitable place able to offer refuge and inspiration.
Please consider donating towards:
- General Fund: Help towards maintenance and improvements to the facilities, house and grounds.
- Financial Assistance and Bursaries Fund: If you have benefited from a retreat at Gaia House, this is a wonderful opportunity to express generosity towards other people for whom the cost of coming on retreat is too high.
- Teacher Dana: The livelihood of most Gaia House Teachers depends wholly, or to a large extent, on the generosity and voluntary contributions from retreatants who value their guidance and wish to support the on-going teachings of the Dharma. If you wish to give Dana to the teachers who lead a particular retreat then please specify this in the notes section on the checkout page.
- Coordinator Dana: Coordinators receive a small monthly stipend, plus food and board. Dana for the Coordinators who live and work at Gaia House is much appreciated and greatly supports their well-being during their time of service. If you wish to give Dana to the coordinators who were working during a particular retreat then please specify this in the notes section on the checkout page.

Gift Aid – make your donations go further
Gaia House is a registered charity and as such we are able to reclaim tax from the Inland Revenue on all donations made to us under the Gift Aid Scheme. Gaia House can claim an additional £2.50 for every £10 donated by UK tax payers, with no extra cost to you.
If you are a UK taxpayer and have paid tax (on income, capital gains and/or savings) at least equal to that which can be reclaimed on your donation, please complete a Gift Aid declaration when you go to the ‘Check Out’ to complete your online donation.
The donation you make under the Gift Aid Scheme can be any amount and may be offered as a single gift or as regular contributions. The Gift Aid Scheme does not apply to donations made to individuals, such as teachers or coordinators.
