If you come on retreat at Gaia House on a regular basis, then you probably appreciate the improvements that may greet you. It might be new indoor and outdoor dining tables, freshly-painted window frames or new bed linens.
On the same visit however, you may also notice that some of the much-used lounge chairs are getting a bit saggy, a bathroom needs refurbishing or the carpet in your room is looking a bit worn.
The truth is that there is a significant cost to hosting hundreds of people over year in a large historic building such as Gaia House and maintaining the peaceful and supportive retreat environment that is central to our mission.
As you may be aware, the Gaia House Trust is committed to making the teachings of the Dharma accessible to all who seek them and thus retreat fees are designed to only cover operating costs such as food, laundry, heating and regular maintenance.
This means that significant upgrades and improvements are reliant on The General Fund, which exists thanks to generous donations from retreatants like you. A large, old building like Gaia House needs continual maintenance and investment to bring it up to the standard of modern regulations and expectations. While doing so, we also strive to make Gaia House more environmentally friendly.
Any support you can give to the General Fund is greatly appreciated. Your donations will help us to maintain the comfort, beauty and simplicity of Gaia House and will also help to keep the daily rate for retreats as low as possible.
