Mahasi Home Practice Retreat 11-13 May

With Bhante Bodhidhamma

For those who were registered for the Mahasi Retreat (8- 12 May), and anybody who feels a connection to Gaia House and/or the Insight Meditation tradition.

Retreat description

Mahasi Insight Meditation (vipassana) is grounded in the tradition of the Burmese meditation master, Mahasi Sayadaw, who began to teach vipassana Insight Meditation after World War II near Yangon (Rangoon) in Myanmar (Burma).

He developed a method to help us maintain moment to moment mindfulness from the instant we awake to the instant we fall asleep. There are two techniques: the use of a simple word to note whatever we are experiencing, and doing everything very slowly.

This leads not only to spiritual insights into our true, unborn-undying essence, but also, equally important, to the purification of the heart, so that, we not only become wiser, but more caring, generous, joyous and compassionate.

To take full advantage of the online, three-day retreat in your home, it would be good to do some preparation ‘homework’ prior to the start of the retreat.

For those who are new to the Mahasi vipassana technique, please listen to the guided meditation below. It might also be a good reminder for those familiar with the technique.

Detailed Guided Meditation mp3

For all who are joining, please listen to the first three talks of a collection of talks given by Bhante Bodhidhamma at Gaia House at the beginning of a nine-day retreat. They cover the areas of: the technique, hindrances and factors of awakening. Please click here to access the talks.
