Insight Meditation and Qigong

A Gaia House online retreat with Jaya Rudgard

Friday, 14 May – Sunday, 16 May

“The stillness within stillness is not true stillness. Only when there is stillness in motion does the universal rhythm manifest.” – Bruce Lee.

This retreat is open to all, whether you have an existing Insight Meditation or Qigong practice or are new to both. We will endeavour to approach everything with a beginner’s mind. Please join us.

Qigong is a gentle movement practice adaptable to most ages and levels of fitness – practices are mainly done standing but many can also be done seated. If you are currently suffering from very limited mobility, however, this may not be the best retreat for you at this time. You are welcome to contact info@gaiahouse.co.uk if you have any questions. For more information about Jaya’s approach, see Qi-mindful.com

JAYA RUDGARD began meditating in the 1980s and practised for eight years as a nun in the Thai Forest tradition in England with Ven. Ajahn Sumedho as her teacher. She is a graduate of the IMS/Spirit Rock Teacher Training and teaches Insight Meditation and mindfulness in the UK and internationally. She also studies and teaches qigong.

Listen to one of Jaya Rudgard's Talks at Spirit Rock Meditation Center on 24.11.2015: Seeing Through the Net of Illusion (Duration 47:55)

Retreat description

A weekend bringing together the Chinese art of mindfulness in motion with the meditative wisdom teachings of the Buddha. Let’s investigate how weaving these two ancient traditions together can support us in our 21st century search for happiness.

If you have access to a garden and the weather permits you will be very welcome to do your qigong practice and/or meditation outside.

Please come with the intention of attending for the whole retreat, as far as your situation and time zone allow. The sessions will be recorded for the benefit of those joining from different time zones.

Well-being guidelines - please click here to read before booking

Before you book, please read these guidelines about mental well-being and silent retreats:

Meditation retreats can be very nourishing; however, as they require sustained meditation practice, they also need some stability of psychological health. If you have recently (within the past year or so) experienced significant trauma or psychiatric illness, or if you are currently experiencing acute emotional distress such as serious depression or anxiety, it may not be the best time for you to participate in a retreat. The teachers might not be able to give you the kind of individual psychological care you need at this time. A setting with more opportunities for interpersonal engagement may be more appropriate.

  • If you are currently under the care of a mental health professional, please discuss your attendance with them. You should be in a relatively stable period of mental well-being and have adequate psychological resilience.
  • If you have any questions about this, please contact Susanne using the email address, retreatmanager@gaiahouse.co.uk
