Love in the Time of Coronavirus: Embodying Open-hearted Wisdom

Friday 10 April – Monday 13 April

With Yanai Postelnik

For those who were registered for the Heart of Wisdom and Kindness retreat (8-13 April), and anybody who feels a connection to Gaia House and/or the Insight meditation tradition.

Retreat description

In times of crisis we may see more clearly what is most important. Here we are called to abandon what is not essential, as an act of safeguarding and support, while wholeheartedly engaging with whatever serves the deepest wellbeing of our world.

You are warmly invited to join this online retreat if you would like to spend some days with others who share a love of silence and stillness and who feel drawn to the Buddha’s teachings and sacred practices of deepening in wisdom and compassion. Together we will engage with these precious resources for meeting our world and holding our hearts, in the midst of the uncertainties and challenges we face, while exploring the power of embodied wakefulness and cultivating a wise and openhearted connection with life. All are welcome.

Yanai Postelnik will be assisted by River Wolton, who is currently in teacher training with the Bodhi College Teacher Training programme, and is also a graduate of the Gaia House Teacher Council’s Community Dharma Leaders programme.

Format

This online retreat in your home, will include periods of instruction, guided meditation practice, silence, Dharma reflections, sharing together as sangha/community and optional sharing meetings.

The format will support all who wish to attend the scheduled group sessions while continuing to be quite fully engaged with your ongoing life at home, and also those wishing to practise formally in a sustained way throughout the days.

Joining this retreat will require your commitment to attending the first and final sessions: Friday 6-7.30pm and Monday 6-7.30pm, as well as the majority of the teaching sessions on Saturday, Sunday and Monday: at 9:30am, 2:30pm and 6:00pm.

If you cannot attend Friday 6-7.30pm, please ensure you watch the opening talk below.

PRECEPTS- refraining and cultivating

Knowing how deeply our lives intertwine,
I undertake the training to refrain from harming living beings.
May I respect all life.

Knowing how deeply our lives intertwine,
I undertake the training to refrain from taking that which is not freely offered to me.
I will practice generosity

Knowing how deeply our lives intertwine,
I undertake the training to refrain from harmful expressions of sensuality.
May I relate to sensuality with respect and sensitivity.

Knowing how deeply our lives intertwine,
I undertake the training to refrain from, untrue or harmful speech.
May my words contribute to harmony.

Knowing how deeply our lives intertwine,
I undertake the training to refrain from substances that cloud the mind.
I cultivate steadfastness and clarity.

These five ethical trainings are a vehicle for wellbeing,
a vehicle for awakening,
and an offering to this world
