Dana or generosity is an essential part of the Buddhist tradition which enables the teachers and coordinators to offer their teachings and service freely at Gaia House.
As well as offering Dana to the teachers and coordinators, there are other ways to practice generosity by supporting Gaia House. Retreat fees are kept as low as possible, so that all who wish to attend are able to do so. However, Gaia House is a non-profit charity and an expensive operation to run. We rely upon donations as well as retreat fees to keep us going, and we will continue to depend upon people’s generosity to take Gaia House into the future as a comfortable and hospitable place able to offer refuge and inspiration.
Please consider donating towards:
- General Fund: Help towards maintenance and improvements to the facilities, house and grounds.
- Teacher and Staff Dana: All Dharma teaching at Gaia House is offered freely, supported by staff who generously give of their time and energy. Your offering (Dana) helps to ensure this can continue.
- Retreatant Support Fund: If you have benefited from a retreat at Gaia House, this is a wonderful opportunity to express generosity towards other people who cannot afford the cost of a retreat. A donation of £40 will enable us to offer a weekend retreat, whilst a donation of £105 will allow someone to come on a 7-day retreat. Donations of any amount will be very gratefully received. If you would like to give others the opportunity to experience a retreat, please donate to this fund.
How to Make a Donation to Gaia House:
Choose to support either the General Fund, which helps improve the buildings and gardens, or the Retreatant Support Fund – and help someone else to go on retreat.
Please make cheques payable to “Gaia House Trust” – and write on the top edge which fund you are supporting
– or Donate On-line.
Regular Donations by Direct Debit or Standing Order
Regular donations are much appreciated to support our ongoing costs and projects. If you are able to make a regular commitment to enabling the practice of others, or provide continuing contributions to our organisation, please get in touch. Thank you.
If you are a UK taxpayer and have paid tax at least equal to that which can be reclaimed on your donation, please complete a Gift Aid declaration.
HMRC Gift Aid for Charities:
Gaia House is a registered charity and as such we are able to reclaim tax from the Inland Revenue on all donations made to us under the Gift Aid Scheme. Gaia House can claim an additional £2.50 for every £10 donated by UK tax payers.
When you make a donation please let us know if you are a UK taxpayer. We will then ask you to complete a short declaration stating that you have paid an amount of tax at least equal to the tax we will reclaim. (You may have paid the tax on income, capital gains and/or savings). The donation you make under the Gift Aid Scheme can be any amount and may be offered as a single gift or as regular contributions. The Gift Aid Scheme does not apply to donations made to individuals, such as teachers or coordinators.
Gift Aid increases the value of your donation to Gaia House, with no extra cost to you.
This is a way that you can support Gaia House in the future, but for this to happen please consider implementing something in your will now. Please contact us for a leaflet explaining how you can do this, and suggesting various forms of words that could be used in a will.
If you would like to keep your donation anonymous, please send a cheque marked ‘Confidential‘ to: The Finance Manager, Gaia House, West Ogwell, Newton Abbot, Devon, TQ12 6EW, England.
Please get in touch if you need further details about ways of giving. Your support is very much appreciated.
